The educational applications are endless, especially considering the ability to embed content from Zoho Notebook into other Web tools and LMS’.

Frappr! - online guest book, hit log, and map mash-up

May 26, 2007 · Filed Under Web Tools · Comment

Frappr! Maps are like a triple mash-up of an online guest book, a hit log and a map, giving Web site owners and visitors an easy and unique way to visualize and interact with each other. Visitors can add their name, photo and message directly on a Web page embedded with Frappr! Maps, and the Web site owner gets real-time stats on where visitors are coming from and how often they visit.

Frappr! Maps is free and can be embedded on any Web page, blog or online community that supports flash embeds. Many learning management systems (LMS), such as Blackboard, support such embed capabilities. Therefore, a tool such as a Frappr map can easily be created and then embedded within the LMS, expanding the collaborative capabilities of the system.

For example…a Frappr! map embedded within the LMS could facilitate a great icebreaker activity for an online course in which learners could add themselves to the class map, add a photo, and even a message about themselves to the rest of the class.

There undoubtedly are countless new Web 2.0 tools that can be utilized to enhance the online learning experience. I’m starting to bookmark such tools I come across with the tag web2.0tools via del.icio.us. Anyone who is also interested in adding to this collection is welcome to use this tag feel free to do so by using the same tag.

NoteMesh is a free service that allows college students in the same classes to share notes with each other. It works by creating a wiki for individual classes that users can edit. Users are free to post their own lecture notes or contribute to existing lecture notes. The idea is that users in the same class can collaboratively create a definitive source for lecture notes.
