Web Conferencing with Free Web 2.0 Tools
This presentation describes the steps to create a web-based conferencing room with free or cheap web 2.0 tools. Then visit the conference room. Very cool! This mashup used YackPack for VoIP, Meebo for chat, SlideShare for presentation, and BlueGrind for creation of audio narration from text. Many educational applications certainly exist!
Free Text-to-Audio (.mp3) with BlueGrind
BlueGrind is a free Web 2.0 tool that allows for textcasting, the conversion of text to .mp3 for distribution. It allows for both the automatic conversion of the text on a blog to .mp3 (with each posting having its own separate .mp3 file) as well as the ability to upload a text file and then have it automatically converted to audio and be downloadable as a .mp3.
Here’s a sample audio file (.mp3) that BlueGrind.com created from text. The voice that you hear is that of a computer, not that of the author of the text. This audio file is posted here.
Audio Conferencing with YackPack
YackPack boasts a simple and convenient web browser based interface design for audio conferencing, allow students and teachers to focus on content and not be distracted by the underlying technology.
Details concerning educational applications of YackPack are listed here. Click here for a video demo of YackPack.
