experimenting with Ustream
I’m continuing to experiment with Ustream.tv and I plan to attempt to stream my workshop entitled, Redesigning Course Materials for Online Delivery that I’ll be offering on Wednesday, 11/28 from 10:00am-11:30am CDT. For anyone who wants to take a peek, it’ll be streaming here: http://ustream.tv/channel/facdevprograms
I plan to attempt recording the session and will make the link to the archive available here once available. At this point, I still haven’t learned how to embed a Ustream video into a WordPress blog. I’m hoping there’s a plugin somewhere that I just haven’t stumbled across yet.Â
If anyone happens to know of a plugin for WordPress to embed Ustream videos, kindly send my way!Â
Groups vs. Networks: The Class Struggle Continues
Stephen Downes shares this presentation he gave at e-Fest in Wellington, New Zealand. It’s his first extended discussion of groups and networks. Slides and audio are also available, along with the original diagram he drew comparing groups vs. networks and his initial video explanation.
mLearn 07
This series of posts from Stephan Ridgway summarizes, and even better, provides audio from, the mLearn 07 conference. Stephan Ridgway, Talking VTE Podcast

One session in particular that caught my eye is the session entitled, “Studywiz: A Big Platform in a Small World”. I hope to download the mp3 file of that session to listen as well as several of the others as well. It looked like it was a great conference. Anyone who attended, feel free to comment with your reflections.
Persistent Social Learning: An Emergent ID Model for Virtual World Design
Lisa Dawley from Boise State University offered a webinar entitled, Persistent Social Learning: An Emerging ID Model for Virtual Worlds. I wasn’t able to attend the session but stumbled across the link to the archive from the MailBucket aggregation of the Second Life Researcher’s List and Second Life Educator’s List.

Thanks to Lisa for posting the link to the archive.

Streaming via Ustream.tv
I’m trying a little experiment with Ustream.tv, the FREE streaming video service that allows you to stream video with a computer and either built-in video camera or some other video camera that is connected to a computer. Over the next couple of days Tue., 11/27 & Wed., 11/28, I will have my test stream on during the day (8am-4:30pm) when I’m in my office. If you happen to have a spare minute, I’d love to hear if you were able to access my video stream.Â

What applications do you see for this technology in educational contexts? For one, any instructor presenting anywhere with a WiFi connection and laptop with built-in video capabilities can stream the presentation back to students who might not be able to attend. I was able to successfully embed this stream as an announcement or content item within Blackboard.
What I can’t yet figure out is how to be able to embed a Ustream video into a WordPress blog. Anyone have any suggestions?
