Merrill on Instructional Design

November 16, 2008 · Filed Under Videos · Comment

David Merrill has become one of the most influential names in instructional design theory. He has developed an extensive body of research dedicated to instructional material, and more recently instructional design and technology, including developing and co-developing several instructional design theories.

He provides in this video a brief introduction to his current thoughts on web-based instructional design and discusses the importance showing rather than just telling, providing opportunities for practicing and doing, and motivating students by engagement in real-world problem solving.

In addition to the session slides, the audio recording is available as either .mp3 or .m4a as well as from my podcast. The enhanced version is available in iTunes.
